Biography of Goudy Hogan, after 1898.

Brief biographical sketch of Goudy Hogan written by his daughter, Josephine Adair. Gives a prose account of Hogan's courtship of the two Nelson sisters, Bergetta and Christiana, both of whom he married, along with their sister Anna. Also includeds brief descriptions of Hogan's travels between Cache County and Dixie, Utah, in the 1870s; his appointment as Bishop of the Leeds Ward by Brigham Young; his following of Young's order to settle Orderville, which Young thought had been corrupted by the presence of the Silver Reef Mining Camp, in 1877; and his three-year mission to Norway, beginning in 1877. In entries taken from Goudy's journal, Goudy describes his time spent preaching and visiting family members in Norway, as well as his brief meeting with Englishman William Budge, the European Mission President.

Goudy Hogan was born in Tensprestijeld, Norway, on September 16, 1829. In 1837 he traveled to the United States with his parents and four younger sisters, two of whom did not survive the journey. The family intially settled in Lasal County, Illinois, where Hogan was sent to work briefly on a neighbor's horse and cattle farm, where he suffered mistreatment and illness.
